Ultimately, the Necroscope predominates with a woman accomplice Radu, who falls in love with him, and with odd allies among the dead, such as Franz Anton Mesmer, Nostradamus, and Harry Houdini. Lumley retains weaknesses Purple Prose, a maximum of Gore and discursive passages of history. Few readers who are not in the saga are followed by the earlier books will enjoy this band, but who knows, and probably enjoy what they get.
